Have you thought about hiring a doula, but are unsure if you want one or can even afford one? We are excited to launch our program to get doula support to everyone at an affordable rate. These doulas will not do any home visits. They only support you while in the hospital.
The steps are very simple.
1. Contact us at programs@tennesseedoulasassociation.org. We will answer any questions that you have.
2. Pay $50 to get a doula for a 6 hour shift while you labor.
3. Call us at 615-625-2243 when you are in abor and we will send a doula to your hospital room to serve you for 6 hours.
Currently, our program is only able to service the following Nashville hospitals: Centennial, Vanderbilt, St. Thomas Ascension, Nashville General, Williamson, and StoneCrest.
What does a doula do during labor? She can help explain things, guide you in comfort measures, guide in peanutball use, hydrotherapy, massage, affirmations, get your partner involved, bring calm to the room, and more. The biggest part is that she is able to sit in the room with you during labor and is a skilled professional who understands the whole process.
Maybe you want to keep the doula beyond the 6 hours. That is fine. Just talk it through with the doula. If she can't stay, we will get the next doula on shift to come instead. It will cost another $50 for another 6 hours, but 24 hours of doula care in the hospital will only cost $200.
Can I hire a doula when I go into labor? Sure! We will work with you the best that we can if you call or hire a doula last minute. It is simpler to organize it ahead of time though.
What if I can't afford the $50? Please don't let that stop you. Reach out to us and we can work something out.
We serve everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, immigration status, religion, or disability. We believe we all have something to contribute. We believe we can all learn from one another.
